How do lyrics come about?
“ Lyrics materialise in my head from a thought about what is going on in the world, or they come out of emotional relationships, with always a strong desire for love and connection. At times I make the conscious decision, as with the latest song I’m writing, to deliberately create an uplifting, joyful song. Then I sit at the piano and find chords I love and let words appear that I can mould, though they often lean into a more soulful folk sound. Really all I can do is let what is inside come out with some thought to how I present the words. Other songs like Love Train are about coming home to Aotearoa and being a part of the beauty of Nature and being grateful to live here. There is no end to creating songs, following dreams, personal philosophy, memories and questions now I’ve found my favourite creative outlet and always there is a hope that a listener will relate to some words and that they will bring meaning for them. ”
